The Graduate Support Program [Programa de Apoio à Pós-graduação – PROAP/CAPES]
aims to provide better conditions for the training of human resources and for the
production and deepening of knowledge in stricto sensu graduate programs maintained by public higher education institutions. Its objective is to finance the activities of graduate programs, involving:
I – Support for innovative activities of graduate programs aimed at their academic
development, seeking to offer increasingly qualified and diversified training to
graduate students and postdoctoral researchers;
II – Funding of scientific-academic activities related to the awarding of master's and
doctoral degrees and postdoctoral training;
III – Support for the development of planning and implementation of the institutional
graduate policy.

Although the allowable expenses with PROAP funds are determined by CAPES, the
criteria for merit and prioritization of expenses will be the responsibility of the PPGs
and will respect the administrative procedures of each institution.

Thus, PPCIS establishes the following activities as its priorities for the use of PROAP
funds:

  1. Aid for students to present papers at national and international conferences or

    events (attendance as an observer will not be covered), limited to three daily

    allowances per student per event, with the possibility of requesting aid for a maximum

    of two events per year;

  2. Aid for students to conduct fieldwork when carried out outside the Metropolitan

    Area of Rio de Janeiro, limited to eight daily allowances per year;

  3. Travel expenses (as in airfare and bus tickets) for presentations and fieldwork will

    not be a priority, but requests may be considered upon evaluation by the coordination;

  4. Translation of articles and chapters by students and faculty, provided they are

    already approved for publication in journals and/or collections;

  5. Aid for professors to present papers at national and international conferences or

    events (attendance as an observer will not be covered), limited to three daily

    allowances per event, with the possibility of requesting aid for a maximum of two

    events per year, prioritizing those without funding from grant agencies.

Requests will be considered if funds are available, in the order of priority established
above. Exceptions will be evaluated by the coordination, considering the availability of
resources and with justification approved by the advisor.
